. I participated in my department's "writing camp" last week. For 48+ hours (lunch-to-lunch from Wednesday to Friday) me and two dozen of my colleagues lived together, worked together and consorted together. It really was a great event and a special thanks goes to Kia Höök  (and Henrik Artman ) who organized the event! We were at a hotel/conference center near Stockholm ( Skogshem & Wijk ) and were consequently pampered from the minute we arrived (lunch) until we left (after lunch). With food, coffee breaks and everything else provided to us, we could fully concentrate on working together with our own and each others' texts. . Pernilla Josefsson presented her ph.d. thesis " Higher education meets private use of social media technologies - an exploratory study of students' use " Tuesday January 9. The thesis is available through DIVA . Me and my colleague Olle Bälter are co-advisors and the main advisor is my ex-colleague Stefan Hrastinski . Pernilla's compilation dissertation has four papers and each of her three advisors is a co-author of exactly one paper each. Well, me and Stefan (and my wife!) are actually co-authors of the same paper: Josefsson, P., Hrastinski, S., Pargman, D., & Pargman, T. C. (2015). . For some venues, I have decided not to out myself when I submit a paper. If the process is supposed to be double blind, it won't do to self-identify and short-cut the process. So I have instead decided to write some about the paper without writing what the paper is about . My first such "anonymous" blog post was written in September 2016 when I submitted no less than three papers to the CHI conference (two were later accepted and they were presented at CHI 2017 in Denver). So I've been thinking about what I  can  write about and any kind of stories about how the paper came about are ok. It's also ok to name co-authors. To mention the title, to quote anything from the abstract or even to mention any of the keywords are big no-nos (the paper then becomes increasingly searchable for reviewers). . A long trip is getting closer to its end. I started to work with (then-recently accepted ph.d. student) Daniel Svensson on a project/paper about esports back in 2012 - I wrote a blog post, " Sportification of cross country skiing & competitive programming " after having attended a seminar at the Department of Science, History and Environment back in March 2012: " Daniel Svensson, who has apparently been a Ph.D. student only since the beginning of this year presented his Ph.D. project at the seminar. . I went to the  the 3rd International Conference on Degrowth, Ecological Sustainability and Social Equity (in Venice back in 2012). I now plan to attend the upcoming  6th International Degrowth Conference for Ecological Sustainability and Social Equity (Theme: " Dialogues in turbulent times ") that will be held in Malmö, Sweden between August 21-25 this year: "This conference aims at expanding the geographical and thematic scope of degrowth discussions, as well as building dialogues with critical social theories, sciences and social movements. Malmö is a perfect city to host such a conference. Vibrant and mixed, but also relaxed and down-to-earth, it has a strong presence of alternative forms of organising and a varied cultural and grassroots life. We want this conference to further consolidate these and act as a platform for mutually enriching dialogues among groups from around the globe striving for a better world." . This is the fifth time I compile annual statistics about the blog - here are the statistics (1) from last year. One year ago I had published almost 440 blog posts and this is blog post #493. Blog post #500 will be published sometime at the end of this month! The 53 published blog posts during 2017 hides the fact that I was absent from the blog for more than five months and only published one single blog post between the end of March and the beginning of September. I believe I lost readers during that period and the number of visits in 2017 were the second lowest ever since I started the blog (and 2010 doesn't really count as the blog was brand new and was only up and running for four months). I in fact had less than half the visitors in 2017 compared to my three most popular years of blogging (2013, 2014 and 2016). . My previous blog post was about the sabbatical I'm on between today and August and the three larger projects/commitments that will structure my time during the spring term (January - June/July). This blog post is about my "new year's promises" - a set of rules that will help me establish habits to structure my time and get the most out of my sabbatical. Below I discuss work habits, research habits, writing habits, reading habits, blogging habits, social media habits and communication habits. 1) Work habits I have a hard time getting the most out of my time when I work from home so I have to leave home and "go to work" every day. When I'm in Stockholm I will for the most part (at least three days per week) sit at The Royal Library. That's where I sat six days per week from when they opened (09.00) and until they closed (19.00) when I wrote my ph.d. thesis - so I have great "muscle memories" of work getting done there (see also this blog p...
